Ammoudaron Beach (or Ammoudares) is one of the most extensive and quiet shores in southeastern Crete, located about 10 kilometers west of Ierapetra, between the village of Myrtos and Stomio.
It is a beach that maintains a very low profile, ideal for those who want to enjoy the sea away from the tourist development of large hotels.
The shore consists mainly of fine pebbles and sand, with deep and crystal-clear waters. Its name ("Ammoudares") hints at vast stretches of sand, although pebbles dominate in several areas. The beach is often affected by winds, which keeps its waters cool and refreshing. Due to its vast length, it offers complete seclusion, as even during the peak of summer, one can find spots to be entirely alone.
The beach is completely unorganized, with no umbrellas or sunbeds, though scattered tamarisk trees along the coast provide natural shade. Access is very easy, as the road connecting Ierapetra to Viannos passes right above it, with several spots to park and walk down to the shore. It is the perfect destination for free swimming, picnics, and relaxation in an environment that feels untouched.
