Aptera Beach (often referred to as Kato Aptera beach) is one of the most interesting coastal destinations in close proximity to the city of Chania.

Geographically, it is located on the northern coast of the prefecture, situated between Chryssi Akti and Glaros, forming part of the series of consecutive coves that characterize the Agioi Apostoloi area.

The landscape of Aptera beach is distinguished by its unique natural formation. It features a sandy shore with clear waters, framed by characteristic rock formations at its edges. These rocks do not only offer a wild beauty to the scenery but also act as natural breakwaters, creating a relatively sheltered cove that is ideal for swimming even when winds in the area are strong.

In contrast to the larger and more open shores of the region, such as Platanias or Maleme, Aptera beach maintains a slightly more enclosed and "cozy" character. Due to its location, it is a meeting point for both local residents and visitors seeking a milder experience. The presence of sports clubs in the wider area (such as surfing clubs) indicates that the beach is also popular for marine activities and sports.

Access to the beach is extremely simple, as it connects to the secondary road network running through the coastal zone of Agioi Apostoloi. The area is served by Chania's regular urban transport, making it accessible even without a private vehicle.

In terms of organization, the beach features facilities with umbrellas and sunbeds, while there are free sections for those who prefer to set up their own equipment on the sand. The surrounding area is fully developed with accommodation and dining options extending a short distance from the water, without however altering the sense of a natural bay.
