Gerontolakkos Beach (often called Agios Nikolaos after the nearby chapel) is one of the most unique and famous beaches in Xerokampos, Lasithi.

It is world-renowned for a very specific reason: the natural clay found in the surrounding cliffs, which turns a simple swim into a free, natural spa experience.

The beach features fine, light-colored sand and shallow, crystal-clear turquoise waters. The main highlight of Gerontolakkos is the clay-rich hills bordering the shore. Visitors typically break off pieces of clay from the rocks, mix them with water to create a paste, apply it to their bodies, let it dry in the sun, and then rinse off in the sea, enjoying a completely natural skin treatment.

Despite its fame, the beach remains unorganized and peaceful, preserving a sense of total freedom. Access is very easy by car, and a few traditional tavernas and studios are located nearby. Gerontolakkos is the perfect destination for those seeking more than just a swim, combining relaxation with the healing properties of the Cretan earth.
