Gialopotamos Beach is one of the most serene and picturesque destinations on the southern coastline of Rethymno, located below the traditional village of Kerames.

Geographically, it is situated between the famous Preveli beach to the west and the settlement of Agia Fotini to the east. Its name is derived from the small river that flows through the namesake gorge and empties directly onto the shore, creating a small wetland with lush vegetation that offers a cool oasis within the rugged Cretan landscape.

The landscape is characterized by a wide expanse of shore with fine sand and pebbles, while the waters are crystal clear, deep, and feature the characteristic intense blue color of the Libyan Sea. The beach is surrounded by high hills and cliffs, providing a sense of tranquility and protection from mass tourism. Due to its size, visitors can always find a secluded spot to enjoy their swim, and the area is ideal for those who love fishing and snorkeling.

Access is via a paved road that descends from Kerames, offering stunning views of the open sea throughout the journey. Although the beach maintains its natural and pristine character, it is partially organized in certain areas, providing basic amenities without compromising the authenticity of the environment. Gialopotamos remains a destination for those seeking peace and contact with a side of Crete where time seems to move at a different pace.
