Gold Coast Beach (also known as Stavros Beach) is one of the most iconic and recognizable coastal destinations on the Akrotiri peninsula.
Geographically, it is located at the northernmost tip of Akrotiri, within the settlement of Stavros and about 15 kilometers from Chania city.
The landscape is characterized by an almost circular, enclosed bay with shallow, turquoise waters and white sand. The most imposing element of the area is the steep, barren mountain rising directly above the shore, providing complete protection from the winds and creating the feeling of a natural lagoon. The beach became world-famous as the location where the final scenes of the movie "Zorba the Greek" were filmed.
Access is particularly easy via the road network crossing Akrotiri, with ample parking available very close to the sand. In terms of organization, Gold Coast Beach is fully equipped with umbrellas, sunbeds, and lifeguard services. The wider area features numerous dining and accommodation options, as well as hiking trails (Stavros Trails) leading into the mountain and to caves of historical interest.
