Gournia Beach is one of the most isolated and wild coastal treasures of southern Crete, located on the western shores of the Heraklion region.

Geographically, it is situated north of Vathi Beach and Cape Lithino, stretching south of the Odigitria Monastery, which serves as the primary landmark for the wider area.

The landscape at Gournia is characterized by the rugged beauty of the Asterousia Mountains, featuring steep cliffs and crystal-clear, deep waters. It is a small, protected cove offering absolute tranquility, far from any trace of mass tourism.

Access to the beach is particularly difficult and requires caution. It is reached via a network of dirt roads that start from the Odigitria Monastery and cross the arid, mountainous environment of the region. Due to the condition of the road network, a 4x4 vehicle is often necessary; alternatively, the beach can be reached by boat from Kaloi Limenes or Lentas.

Regarding organization, Gournia Beach is completely unorganized. There are no facilities, shade, or food and water supply points, so visitors must be fully prepared and equipped with all essentials. It is an ideal destination for those seeking seclusion and an authentic experience of Cretan nature in its rawest form.
