Hiromili Beach is one of the most secluded and rugged treasures of the Asterousia Mountains, located on the southern coast of the Heraklion region (Municipality of Archanes-Asterousia).
It is situated west of the Maridaki settlement and east of the Monastery of Agios Nikitas, at a point where the harsh Cretan landscape meets the Libyan Sea in a truly unique way. This pristine coastline is surrounded by tall, steep cliffs and impressive geological formations, offering absolute isolation and tranquility to the few visitors who reach it.
The beach features dark pebbles and sand, while its waters are deep, crystal-clear, and boast an intense turquoise hue. The seabed in the area is exceptionally rich and ideal for snorkeling, as the underwater rock formations host a wide variety of marine life. Due to its location, the beach is exposed to southern winds, but the raw beauty of the landscape more than rewards those seeking a connection with untouched nature.
In terms of access and organization, Hiromili is a completely unorganized beach, lacking any infrastructure or natural shade. Access is relatively difficult, primarily via the mountainous dirt road connecting Achendrias with Maridaki and Agios Nikitas, a route that requires a high-clearance vehicle and offers breathtaking views. Alternatively, it can be reached via hiking paths from surrounding areas or by boat. Visitors must be fully prepared, carrying their own water, food, and shade equipment, as the beach is far from any amenities.
