Kritamos Beach (or Small Cave Beach Kritamos) is one of the most unique and hidden coastal treasures of southern Crete, in the Frangokastello area.
Geographically, it is located west of the settlement and Vatalos beach, tucked away below the level of the coastal plain, offering a unique setting that sets it apart from the large sandy beaches of the region.
The landscape is characterized by its geological uniqueness, as the shore is essentially "carved" into the soft rocks, creating natural alcoves and small caves that provide natural shade and protection. The waters are pristine, crystal clear, and possess the characteristic turquoise hue of the Libyan Sea, while the beach took its name from the sea fennel (kritamos) plant that thrives on its rocks. The atmosphere is intensely secluded and serene, ideal for those seeking peace in a "protected" natural environment.
Access is easy via the Frangokastello coastal road, with a short path leading directly from the road to the sand. Regarding organization, the beach is completely unorganized, preserving its authentic and virgin form without any human intervention. It administratively belongs to the Chania Prefecture (Municipality of Sfakia) and is the ideal choice for those who want to combine the area's convenience with the experience of a remote and picturesque corner of the Cretan south.
