Macherida Beach is one of the most unique and "wild" coastal destinations on the Akrotiri peninsula.
Geographically, it is located on the western side of Akrotiri, approximately 14 kilometers from Chania city, situated north of Tersanas beach and the Agiofaraggo Gorge.
The landscape is characterized by a small, secluded cove with crystal-clear, deep blue waters and fine sand. Due to its location within a deep bay surrounded by high rocks, the beach is almost always sheltered from the winds. One of the most interesting features of the area is Lake Macherida, an important saltwater wetland located very close to the shore that hosts various fauna species.
Access to the beach is via a dirt road starting from the Tersanas area, while the final stretch requires a short hike on a trail. Unlike neighboring shores, Macherida lacks any organization, preserving its virgin beauty. Its isolation and natural character have long made it popular among nature lovers and nudists.
