Maleme Beach is one of the most historic and extensive coastal fronts of the Gulf of Chania.

Geographically, it is located on the northern coast of the prefecture, east of Tavronitis and a short distance from Platanias, serving as a significant landmark for the wider region.

The landscape is characterized by its very long coastline, consisting mainly of pebbles and sand. The waters are crystal clear and deepen relatively quickly, while the beach is open to the Cretan Sea, making it frequently exposed to northern winds. The atmosphere in Maleme is quieter compared to neighboring bustling tourist centers, offering a sense of spaciousness and serenity.

Access is extremely easy via the Old National Road of Chania-Kissamos, which runs through the settlement parallel to the coast. Regarding organization, the beach features full facilities with umbrellas, sunbeds, and lifeguard services in several parts. Along the coastal road, there is a large number of accommodations and dining options, while the area is globally known for its historical significance during World War II.
