Moni Kapsa Beach is situated in one of the most imposing locations in southeastern Crete, right at the exit of the breathtaking Pervolakia Gorge and beneath the historic Monastery of Saint John the Baptist (Kapsa).
Located about 9 kilometers from Makry Gialos, it is a site of immense natural and historical significance.
The shore features fine pebbles and the crystal-clear, pristine waters of the Libyan Sea, which are often refreshingly cool due to local freshwater springs. The landscape is rugged and rocky, with the sheer vertical cliffs of the gorge looming over the beach, creating a unique setting where the mountains meet the sea. Due to its rocky seabed, it is an excellent choice for snorkeling, as the water clarity allows for the observation of diverse marine life.
The beach is completely unorganized, maintaining a sense of tranquility and sanctity, as the Kapsa Monastery is built directly above, perched on the cliffs. Access is very easy via the coastal road connecting Ierapetra to Goudouras. It is the perfect destination for those wishing to combine a refreshing swim with a visit to the monastery or a hike through the gorge, experiencing the most authentic side of Crete.
