Nisakia Beach (also known as Isles Beach) is one of the most charming and secluded spots on the southern coast of the Heraklion region, located in the settlement of Maridaki (Municipality of Archanes-Asterousia).
It is situated at the southern end of the village, in a small, sheltered cove separated from Maridaki's main beach by a rocky outcrop. Its name derives from the small rocks emerging from the water like tiny islands, giving the landscape a unique aesthetic.
The shore features fine pebbles and crystal-clear waters that deepen relatively quickly, while its rocky seabed is rich in marine life, making it a perfect spot for snorkeling enthusiasts. Due to its position, Nisakia Beach offers more privacy and better protection from winds compared to the main beach, serving as a tranquil sanctuary for those seeking peace.
Regarding organization, the beach is completely unorganized, preserving its pristine and authentic character. Access is very easy on foot through the alleys of Maridaki village. To reach Maridaki itself, visitors can either take the scenic coastal path from Tsoutsouros (a 20-30 minute hike) or drive via the mountain dirt road from Achendrias. Despite the lack of facilities on the sand, the close proximity to the village's traditional tavernas allows visitors to enjoy local flavors and fresh fish after their swim, completing an experience that blends the rugged beauty of the Asterousia Mountains with South Cretan hospitality.
