Ornios Beach is one of the most secluded and rugged destinations on the southern coast of the Heraklion region, situated between Tris Ekklisies and Agios Ioannis Kapetanianon.
It is located in the heart of the Asterousia Mountains, east of Sweet Kolymbos Beach and Perakospilaio, positioned directly below the region's impressive Carob Forest. It is a pristine coast featuring fine pebbles and crystal-clear, deep waters, surrounded by the rough and arid landscape that characterizes the entire southern side of the mountain range.
Access to Ornios Beach is particularly difficult, as the area lacks a road network reaching the shore. The most recommended way to visit is by sea, using a boat from nearby settlements. For experienced hiking enthusiasts, it is possible to reach the beach via trails crossing through the Carob Forest or from neighboring beaches; however, the route is demanding due to the steep terrain and the lack of official signage.
In terms of organization, Ornios is a completely unorganized beach, maintaining its authentic and raw form. There are no umbrellas, sunbeds, or any other tourist infrastructure, and natural shade is limited, depending on the rocky formations along the shore. Visitors must be entirely self-sufficient, carrying their own water, food, and shade equipment. The beach offers a rare experience of total tranquility and isolation, making it an ideal spot for those wishing to connect with the wild nature of Asterousia far from civilization.
