Alatsogremni Beach constitutes one of the most imposing and distinct landscapes of southern Crete, located in the Rethymno region.

Geographically, it extends exactly west of the settlement and the main bay of Agios Pavlos, forming the natural coastal continuation to the west. It is a place of wild beauty that captivates with its simplicity and geological interest, while its vast size allows visitors to always find a quiet spot, even during peak seasons.

The primary feature that renders this beach unique is the massive sand dunes that cascade down from the mountain and meet the sea. These falling dunes create a scenery reminiscent of a desert right next to the Libyan Sea. The sand is fine with a warm golden hue, while the waters are deep, crystal clear, and possess an intense turquoise color, hiding fascinating seabeds that are excellent for snorkeling.

Access to the shore requires a short hike along the path starting above Agios Pavlos. Descending the dunes toward the water is a unique experience, although the upward return can be tiring due to the steep incline and the soft sand. Because of its open orientation, the beach is frequently exposed to winds, which contributes to the constant reshaping of the dunes, while simultaneously offering one of the most beautiful sunsets on the island, where the sun disappears into the sea directly in front of the hills.

In terms of organization, Alatsogremni is a completely pristine and unorganized beach. There is no human intervention or infrastructure on the sand, offering an absolute sense of freedom and isolation. Due to the total lack of shade and amenities, it is essential for visitors to be fully prepared, carrying their own water and necessary supplies. The experience of staying there offers one of the most authentic encounters with the raw landscape of the Cretan land, far from any kind of urban development.
