Psilou Roumi Beach is one of the most isolated and pristine coastal treasures of southern Crete, in the wider Frangokastello area.
Geographically, it is located west of the settlement and Kritamos beach, serving as a hidden sanctuary for those seeking absolute tranquility away from the region's tourist spots.
The landscape is characterized by the raw and untamed beauty of the Libyan Sea. The shore features crystal-clear, deep waters and a combination of sand, pebbles, and scattered rocks that create a unique natural setting. Its name ("Roumi") is often associated in the local dialect with stream beds or passages, indicating the flow of water from the surrounding mountains to the sea. The atmosphere is intensely serene, offering a sense of freedom in an environment that feels untouched by time.
Access to the beach is via dirt roads crossing the coastal plain west of Frangokastello. Regarding organization, Psilou Roumi is a completely unorganized beach, with absolutely no infrastructure, shade, or amenities. It administratively belongs to the Chania Prefecture (Municipality of Sfakia) and is the ideal destination for visitors who are fully prepared with necessary supplies and seek the experience of a virgin shore in the heart of the Cretan south.
