Pylos Beach is one of the most unique and geologically fascinating destinations in the Palekastro area, within the Lasithi region.
Located on the eastern side of the peninsula that defines Chiona Bay, it is a spot of rare natural beauty, far removed from mass tourism.
The beach’s most striking feature is its impressive clay formations. The grey and white rocks give the landscape an almost lunar appearance, and many visitors use the natural clay from the cliffs for a makeshift outdoor spa treatment (clay therapy) right on the shore. The waters are crystal-clear, transparent, and usually very calm, as the beach's geographical position shelters it from most of the local "meltemia" winds.
The shore consists of a mix of sand and fine pebbles, and reaching it is an adventure in itself. Visitors typically arrive via footpaths starting from Chiona or Bontalaki, following the coastline eastward. Due to its seclusion, Pylos Beach is completely unorganized, offering a sense of absolute freedom and tranquility.
It is an ideal destination for snorkeling enthusiasts, as the rocky seabed is home to vibrant marine life, as well as for those seeking an alternative beach experience that combines wild nature with the beneficial properties of the Cretan earth.
