Trapeza Cave, also known as Kronion Cave, is located on the Lasithi Plateau between the village of Marmaketo and Tzermiado at an altitude of around 860 meters.
This impressive cave features two chambers with natural formations, including stalactites and stalagmites that create a unique interior landscape. The entrance is narrow and somewhat hidden, but a short path with steps through trees leads visitors to it, offering a beautiful view of the plateau.
Archaeologically, the cave is significant, as excavations have revealed human activity from the Neolithic to Minoan periods, indicating that it was first used as a dwelling, later as a burial site, and possibly as a place of worship or ritual significance. Finds from the cave include pottery fragments, tools, and other items that highlight its long and varied use throughout ancient times.
