Achendrias is a mountainous settlement in the Heraklion prefecture, built on the eastern slopes of the Asterousia Mountains.
The village preserves its traditional character and is situated in a rugged and imposing natural environment, characteristic of southern Crete.
The residential fabric develops around the Vasiliki-Achendria provincial road, which serves as the main access route to the village and connects it with the wider Asterousia region. A central spiritual and religious reference point for the community is the holy church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary (Koimisis tis Theotokou), which overlooks the settlement.
A visit to Achendrias offers an authentic experience of the Cretan hinterland, far from the busy tourist centers. The area is ideal for those who enjoy exploring mountainous terrain, as routes starting from the village lead toward the steep southern coasts and the Libyan Sea, highlighting the wild beauty of the land.
