Hondros Volakas Beach is one of the quietest and lesser-known coastal enclaves of southern Crete, located in the wider area of Frangokastello.
Geographically, it is situated west of the historic Frangokastello fortress and Orthi Ammos beach, offering a sanctuary of peace away from the more crowded spots of the region.
The landscape is characterized by the raw beauty of the Libyan Sea, with the shore featuring crystal-clear waters and a combination of sand with rocky formations. Its name ("Hondros Volakas") likely refers to the large rocks dominating the area, creating a unique geological setting ideal for snorkeling. The atmosphere is deeply relaxing, maintaining the authenticity of the Cretan south.
Access is very easy via the road network crossing the Frangokastello plain, with roads leading directly near the shore. Despite its proximity to settlements with tourist infrastructure, such as tavernas and rental rooms located a short distance away, the beach itself remains largely unorganized. It is an ideal destination for those seeking tranquility and clean seas in a landscape that combines ease of access with natural beauty.
