Kaloi Limenes is one of the most historical and unique coastal destinations in southern Crete, located on the southern shores of the Heraklion region.
It is a natural bay protected from the winds, which earned it its name, and is globally famous as the spot where the Apostle Paul landed during his journey to Rome.
Geographically, the settlement is located west of Makria Ammos beach and Karavovrysi. The area is surrounded by an imposing and arid landscape, typical of the Asterousia Mountains, while the islets of Mikronisi and Agios Pavlos lie just offshore. On the islet of Agios Pavlos, large fuel storage facilities are situated, serving as a landmark for the area and providing a distinct industrial character that contrasts with the pristine nature of the surrounding shores.
Access to Kaloi Limenes is easy via the regional road (Alithinis - Pigadakion), which winds through the mountains and ends at the coastal front. The route offers panoramic views of the Libyan Sea and leads directly to the settlement and neighboring beaches.
In terms of infrastructure, Kaloi Limenes is an organized destination that nonetheless maintains its tranquility. The settlement features traditional tavernas, cafes, and rental rooms for visitors. At the western edge of the settlement lies the small beach of Agios Markos, while nearby is the starting point for the trail to the stunning Agiofarago Gorge, one of the most popular hiking and swimming destinations in Crete.
