Martsalos Beach is one of the most secluded and unique destinations on the southern coast of the Heraklion region, hidden among the imposing massifs of the Asterousia Mountains.

Geographically, it is located west of the world-famous Agiofarago beach and east of Kounenoi beach.

The beach is situated at the exit of the Martsalioitiko Gorge, a place with a deep religious and ascetic tradition. Inside the gorge, just before reaching the shore, stands the cave church of Martsalos Panagia, dating back to the Venetian period. The landscape is characterized by the presence of hundreds of native Cretan date palms, giving the area an exotic beauty.

Access to Martsalos is difficult, requiring either a 30-40 minute hike through the gorge, after driving a challenging dirt road starting near the Odigitria Monastery or by boat from Kaloi Limenes.

In terms of organization, Martsalos is a completely unorganized beach. It features large pebbles and crystal-clear blue waters that deepen abruptly, offering absolute peace and seclusion. Due to the sacred nature of the area, nudism and wild camping are discouraged, out of respect for the site's history as a place of worship.
