Potamos beach is located east of the town of Malia behind the archaeological site of Malia palace. It is a quiet yet organized beach offering an alternative to the crowded and bustling beaches of Malia.

The beach is quite organized without beach bars. Its name comes from the small river that flows to the east of the beach. Here is also the wetland of Malia, also known as Valtos, where many species of birds find shelter, but also several species of coastal vegetation that are extinct on the island.
