Potamos Beach is located in Xerokampos, near Sitia in southeastern Crete, within the Lasithi region. It lies just beyond the area of Alatsolimni and close to the exit of the Katsounaki Gorge, forming part of a quieter and less visited section of the coastline.
The beach is mainly covered with pebbles and stones, while the seabed is rocky, which can make entry into the water slightly challenging in some spots. The waters are clear and transparent, making the area suitable for swimming and snorkeling.
The surrounding landscape is simple and undeveloped, with sparse vegetation and a few tamarisk trees providing limited natural shade. There are no organized facilities, reinforcing the beach’s calm and isolated atmosphere.
Access is via a dirt road of approximately 800 meters that leads close to the shore. While not particularly difficult, the route requires some attention.
Compared to the sandy beaches of Xerokampos, Potamos attracts fewer visitors and is generally preferred by those seeking a quieter setting. Its natural character and location make it a suitable option for visitors looking for a more relaxed and less crowded beach experience.
Basic tourist amenities, such as tavernas and accommodation, can be found in the wider Xerokampos area, which remains relatively undeveloped overall.
