Spilies Beach is one of the most unique and atmospheric coastal destinations in the central part of northern Crete.

Geographically, it is located in the Rethymno prefecture, situated east of Rethymno city and a short distance from the Skaleta area.

The landscape is characterized by its wild beauty, as the beach is nestled within a small, sheltered cove surrounded by imposing rocky formations. Its name ("Spilies" meaning caves) derives from the natural sea caves formed in the surrounding rocks, offering a unique backdrop for swimmers. The waters are deep, crystal clear, and feature a vibrant turquoise color, while the shore consists primarily of pebbles.

Access to the beach is possible via the Northern Road Axis of Crete (E90 / European Route 75), which passes a short distance from the shore. A local path connects the national highway to the cove, allowing visitors to reach the spot by vehicle.

Despite its secluded and wild character, Spilies offers basic organization. A tavern-beach bar operates on the beach, providing food and refreshing drinks, while umbrellas and sunbeds are available for those seeking comfort. It is an ideal destination for those wishing to avoid very large and crowded sandy beaches in favor of a more enclosed and distinctive natural setting.
