The Moronis River is one of the most important wetlands on the northern coast of Crete, located at the head of Souda Bay.

Geographically, it is situated in the Souda area, east of Chania city, marking the point where the river flows into the sea.

The landscape is characterized by rich riparian vegetation and a unique ecosystem that blends the river's fresh water with the bay's salt water. The area serves as a sanctuary for many bird species and aquatic life, acting as a significant natural lung next to the port and the residential zones of Souda.

Access to the Moronis area is easy via Plotarchou Maridaki and Akrotiriou streets. Nearby, there are nautical athletic facilities such as the Souda N.A.O., as well as boarding points for maritime activities, while the broader area includes commercial infrastructure like the Chania Seafood Market.

Unlike the organized beaches of Akrotiri, the Moronis River offers a different recreational experience, focused on nature observation and exploration of a protected aquatic environment.
