Houdetsi is located 22 kilometers south of Heraklion in the province of Pediada, built at an altitude of 440 meters.

Agricultural is the main activity of villagers, such as olive growing and viticulture, with the vineyards of the village being famous for the excellent wine they produce.

Historically the village seems to be inhabited from the Middle Minoan era as seems the various findings and figurines found in place Korfi and the Hellenistic findings of a small clay head of goddess Athena bearing helmet and aqueduct facilities.

Houdetsi music Festival

Each summer here takes place one of the most important cultural events of the region, the Houdetsi music Festival, which attracts large number of Cretans from all over the island and tourists who have the opportunity to hear music from around the world, taste the local cuisine, take part in activities and watch performances.
