Kamilari village is located in south Heraklion county in a distance of about 65 km from Heraklion city close to the archaeological site of Phaistos.

It is a quiet village which is built on three hills offering magnificent view of both the lush plain of Messara and the Libyan Sea. It is an ideal summer destination for many tourists as in short distance there are the famous beaches of Matala, Kommos and Kalamaki village, as it has several hotels and inns, bars and restaurants.

Historically the village inhabited from the Minoan era as revealed from the archaeological finds that have been found in the region and a Minoan vaulted tomb.

The inhabitants of the village, which according to the 2011 census amount 481 persons, are very hospitable and keep the traditional customs. Also here are organized several cultural events all year around.
