Kandanos is a historic major village in the Chania hinterland, built in a fertile valley and surrounded by extensive olive groves.

It is one of the most iconic locations in the region, globally recognized for the heroic resistance of its residents and the total destruction it suffered at the hands of Nazi forces during World War II.

The settlement is surrounded by a network of smaller villages and locations, such as Lofos, Agii Apostoli, Anisaraki, Trachiniakos, and Plemeniana. The area offers various accommodation options scattered both within and around the village, catering to visitors who wish to explore the history and natural landscape of the Cretan countryside.

Its strategic position is enhanced by the provincial road that passes through it, connecting the settlement with the Temenia area and the rest of the hinterland toward the southern coastline. Nearby are also the settlements of Grigoriana, Meniana, Kopeti, Dris, and Despotiko, making Kandanos the central administrative and social point of reference for the entire Selino province.
