Kato Arhanes village is located 14 kilometers south of the city of Heraklion at 360 meters altitude, in a valley with vineyards below Mount Youchtas.

The village is essentially formed by four oldest settlements, Kato Archanes, Ampela, Kera Eleousa and Patsides. It was mentioned for first time in Venetian documents with the names of two of the settlements, Arcanes Catto, Pacidhes Apano and Pacidhes Catto.

The population of the village according to the census of 2011 is 610 inhabitants. The main occupation of the villagers is the viticulture and the production of raisins.
