Kavousi is a historic and traditional settlement in the Lasithi prefecture, built in a strategic location overlooking the Mirabello Bay and the Ierapetra plain.

The village is one of the most important archaeological and nature-loving destinations in eastern Crete, preserving its authentic character intact.

The most noteworthy feature to visit in Kavousi is the Monumental Olive Tree, a tree thousands of years old considered among the oldest in the world and a living natural monument. The area holds immense archaeological interest, with the Azoria Minoan settlement dominating the southeast, offering unique insights into the region's history. Additionally, the settlement is a starting point for impressive routes, such as the Path to Avgos, leading through a wild and beautiful landscape towards the mountains.

A tour of Kavousi reveals a place rich in religious monuments, such as the churches of Agioi Anargyroi and Agia Anastasia to the south, as well as the church of Agio Pnevma to the east. The settlement is traversed by the main road axis (E75) connecting Agios Nikolaos to Sitia and is surrounded by locations like Liophyta and Sopata, offering a complete experience of the Cretan hinterland that combines history, tradition, and unique natural beauty.
