Kopanes is a coastal settlement located on the southern shores of the Lasithi prefecture, east of Ierapetra.

The area is characterized by direct access to the Libyan Sea and its proximity to Sarikampos Beach, offering an environment ideal for relaxation by the sea.

The most noteworthy feature of the area is its strategic position among significant coastal points of interest. To the west of the settlement lies the Gavrilis area, while to the east extend the settlements of Nea Anatoli, Stomio (with its namesake Limnaki beach), and Gra Lygia. This geographical layout allows visitors to explore a continuous coastline with diverse beaches and landscapes.

A tour of Kopanes reveals a place that combines the traditional agricultural activity of the region with tourism development. The settlement is surrounded by cultivated lands, while the landscape is completed by the presence of neighboring areas such as Ammoudara and Kalogeri to the north, offering a comprehensive view of the southern Cretan countryside.
