Selakano (or Selekano) is one of the most important and pristine mountain destinations in eastern Crete, located on the southern slopes of the Dikti mountain range.
The area is widely known for the Selakano forest, considered the largest and most significant beekeeping forest on the island, consisting primarily of Calabrian pine.
The settlement maintains an authentic and secluded character, with daily life revolving around traditional rural activities. At the heart of the settlement, there are reference points for the local community, such as Styliani Fanouraki's cafe, while religious faith is expressed through picturesque chapels like that of Agios Eustathios, located on the outskirts of the village.
A tour of Selakano reveals a landscape of wild natural beauty, where steep mountain peaks alternate with lush green slopes. Due to its rich ecosystem and numerous springs, Selakano attracts hikers and nature lovers, offering an experience of total disconnection from urban life. Its strategic location high in the mountains also provides impressive views of the surrounding hinterland, making it one of the most atmospheric settlements in the region.
