Vasiliki is one of the most significant archaeological and historical settlements in the Lasithi prefecture, situated at a strategic point within the Isthmus of Ierapetra, the narrowest part of Crete.

The village offers a unique view toward the Gulf of Mirabello and is world-renowned among the archaeological community due to the adjacent Pre-palatial Minoan settlement, which lent its name to a distinct pottery style known as "Vasiliki Ware."

The Archaeological Site of Vasiliki (visible at the bottom of your map) dates back to 2500 BC and represents one of the earliest examples of organized urban planning in Crete. The most famous find is the "House on the Hill," a large structure considered a precursor to the later Minoan palaces. Vasiliki Ware is characterized by its unique mottled decoration, created through uneven firing of the clay, and remains one of the most recognizable styles of Minoan art worldwide.

Today, the modern village of Vasiliki preserves its tranquility and authenticity, serving as an ideal stop for travelers exploring eastern Crete. As shown on the map, the heart of the settlement is graced by the church of Agia Triada and the Dormition of the Virgin, while traditional cafes (like the Kafeneio - Ovelistirio) offer classic Cretan hospitality. Vasiliki’s proximity to the stunning Ha Gorge makes the area a magnet for nature lovers and hikers, perfectly blending ancient history with the raw natural beauty of Lasithi.
