Lygiopharango (also known as Ligiopharango) is located in southern Crete, within the Heraklion regional unit, on the eastern side of the Asterousia Mountains, near the village of Achentrias.

It is an impressive and rugged gorge, known for its natural beauty and dramatic landscape.

The gorge is characterized by steep, vertical rocky walls, narrow passages, and intense terrain. The ground is mainly rocky, and its formation is the result of long-term water erosion, creating striking geological formations.

Crossing the gorge does not require specialized technical equipment such as ropes, making it accessible to hikers with good physical condition. However, the route requires caution due to the uneven terrain and challenging sections.

Lygiopharango ends at Maridaki Beach, a beautiful and relatively secluded beach on the southern coast of Crete, where visitors can relax and swim after the hike.

The area hosts Mediterranean vegetation and wildlife adapted to the dry conditions of the Asterousia range, while the wild landscape offers an authentic nature experience.
