The Agia Anastasia Gorge is located in the Heraklion region and offers a mild and relatively easy hiking route, ideal for those who wish to explore the natural beauty of the Cretan countryside.
It starts near the area of Kato Chorio in Pediada and ends close to the coastal settlement of Gournes, while its name comes from the cave-like chapel of Saint Anastasia located near its entrance. The gorge is approximately 4 kilometers long and takes about 3 hours to cross, with no significant technical difficulties, as the terrain is fairly smooth. Along the route, visitors will encounter narrow passages, low vegetation mainly consisting of oleanders, and a small stream that collects water from the surrounding area during certain periods. Despite its natural beauty and easy accessibility, the gorge remains relatively unknown, offering a peaceful and less crowded experience.
