Kavousi gorge is located in southern Crete, within the Heraklion regional unit, in the area of Keratokampos, near the settlements of Kastri and Kapsali.
It is a lesser-known gorge that maintains a wild and remote character.
The gorge develops within the rugged landscape of the southern inland and is characterized by rocky slopes, narrow passages, and intense terrain. Its geomorphology has been shaped by water erosion, forming a rough yet impressive natural environment.
The route through the gorge is not organized and requires caution, as the ground is uneven and in some places difficult to navigate. It is mainly suitable for experienced hikers who seek quieter and less explored routes.
The surrounding area features dry Mediterranean vegetation and strong geological formations, while its proximity to the sea offers beautiful views of the southern coastline.
Kavousi II Gorge is an authentic natural destination in southern Crete, ideal for exploration away from busy tourist areas.
