Kournas lake is located in the prefecture of Chania, 4 km from Georgioupolis, in a location surrounded by mountains. Its size is about 58 hectares with a maximum depth of about 20 meters.

The lake

The lake is the only one with fresh water on Crete and forms an ecosystem with many rare species of fauna and flora. That is why it has also been joined in the Natura 2000 program.

Access and activities

Road access is easy. In the area there are taverns and cafes overlooking the lake, while during the summer months you can also swim in the water from the small beaches that are formed around the lake. The destination is also suitable for winter excursions, as you can explore the area where the taverns are located, see the ducks and admire the beautiful and wild view of the lake, while afterwards you can sit and enjoy your food or coffee.

The destination is an excellent choice for the family, as it can meet the needs of both pleasure and dining.
