Katharo Plateau is located in eastern Crete, within the Lasithi regional unit, a short distance from the town of Agios Nikolaos and near the Lasithi Plateau.

It is one of the quieter and less tourist-developed plateaus on the island, preserving a strong sense of authenticity.

At an altitude of around 1,100 meters, the plateau is surrounded by the peaks of the Dikti mountain range, forming an impressive natural landscape. The area is characterized by fertile land, small cultivated fields, and agricultural activity, while livestock farming also plays an important role.

Katharo Plateau experiences strong seasonal contrasts. In winter, it is often covered with snow, while in spring and summer it becomes green and vibrant, with crops and natural vegetation creating a particularly beautiful setting.

The area also has ecological importance, hosting local flora and fauna, and offering suitable conditions for hiking and nature exploration. Its peaceful and relatively isolated environment makes it an ideal destination for those seeking an authentic experience of the Cretan countryside.

Katharo Plateau is a characteristic example of a mountain plateau in Crete, combining natural beauty, agricultural use, and traditional rural life.
