Afrathias Beach is the northernmost section of the extensive sandy coastline stretching along the Messara Bay in southern Crete.

Geographically, it is situated north of Pahia Ammos and the settlement of Kalamaki, with the small namesake settlement of Afrathias dominating the area.

The beach landscape is characterized by its tranquility and openness, featuring fine sand and crystal-clear waters. At the northern end of the beach stand the churches of Zoodochos Pigi and Kimisi Theotokou, adding a distinct character to the site. Like neighboring shores, Afrathias is exposed to western winds, making it ideal for those who enjoy playing in the waves.

Access is very easy via the road network connecting Tymbaki and Kamilari to the coast. The area offers several accommodation options, as well as sports facilities.

Regarding organization, Afrathias is less organized compared to Kalamaki, providing a quieter alternative for visitors. While there are some points with facilities for swimmers, most of the beach remains pristine, maintaining contact with the natural environment and the local sand dunes.
