Itanos Beach is located in northeastern Crete, in the Lasithi region, just a few kilometers north of the famous Vai palm forest and near the village of Palekastro.

It is considered one of the most distinctive coastal areas in the region, combining natural beauty with significant historical importance.

In reality, Itanos is not a single beach but a series of three consecutive coves, situated next to the ruins of the ancient city of Itanos, also known as Erimoupoli. The beaches are connected by short walking paths, offering visitors different views and experiences within the same area.

The most easily accessible beach lies near the parking area, while the others require a short walk. The northern cove is often regarded as the most impressive, featuring sandy stretches and clear turquoise waters, while in some parts small clusters of palm trees can also be found.

The waters are exceptionally clear, and the seabed is of particular interest, as remains of the ancient city can still be found beneath the surface. This creates a unique setting for swimming, snorkeling, and underwater exploration.

The area remains largely undeveloped, with no organized facilities or services, preserving a quiet and natural atmosphere despite its proximity to Vai. Access is straightforward by car up to a parking point, from where footpaths lead to the individual beaches.

Itanos stands out as a destination where history and landscape are closely intertwined. The experience goes beyond a simple beach visit, offering a setting where ancient ruins meet clear waters and the calm environment of eastern Crete.
