Kalathas Beach is one of the most popular and beautiful destinations on the Akrotiri peninsula.
Geographically, it is located on the western side of Akrotiri, in a prime location about 10 kilometers from Chania city, situated within a natural bay that protects it from most winds.
The landscape is characterized by fine golden sand and crystal-clear shallow waters that take on a stunning turquoise hue. The most recognizable feature of Kalathas is the small islet located very close to the shore, which many visitors reach by swimming. The beach is surrounded by low hills with vegetation and palm trees, creating an exotic yet family-friendly environment.
Access is extremely easy via the road network leading from Kounoupidiana to the coast, with parking available right above the beach. At the northern part of the shore, the Kalathas Gorge ends, adding a touch of wild natural beauty at the point where the Kalathorema stream meets the sea.
In terms of organization, Kalathas is fully equipped with umbrellas, sunbeds, showers, and lifeguard services. The area also features water sports infrastructure, while around the beach, there are several options for accommodation and dining, making Kalathas a complete destination for all-day recreation.
