Koudouma Beach is one of the most sacred and serene destinations in Southern Crete, located in the shadow of Kofinas, the highest peak of the Asterousia Mountains.

It lies directly in front of the historic Koudouma Monastery in the Municipality of Gortyna, representing a place where spirituality meets raw natural beauty. The shore features fine pebbles and deep, crystal-clear waters, surrounded by a rare pine forest that reaches almost to the sea. Due to its proximity to the monastery, the atmosphere is exceptionally peaceful, and the beach is protected from western winds by Cape Martelos to its west.

Access to Koudouma is a true experience and requires patience, as the road involves a long dirt track starting from the village of Sternes, descending the steep southern slopes of Asterousia for about 24 kilometers. The route is breathtaking, offering panoramic views of the Libyan Sea, but due to the numerous hairpins and mountainous terrain, a high-clearance vehicle and careful driving are necessary. Alternatively, the beach can be reached by boat from nearby settlements like Tris Ekklisies or Lentas.

Regarding organization, the beach is completely unorganized, with no umbrellas or sunbeds, maintaining respect for the monastery's sacred grounds. However, visitors can find shade under the pine and tamarisk trees lining the shore. The monastery provides basic hospitality, and the monks are well-known for their welcome toward pilgrims and travelers. It is essential for visitors to follow the site's rules of decency, avoiding noise and nudity, to preserve the unique energy and quietude of this secluded sanctuary.
