Kountoura Beach (or Kountoura Pelekanou Beach) is one of the most peaceful and authentic destinations in southern Crete, known for the tranquility it offers away from major tourist centers.

Geographically, it is located on the shores of the Libyan Sea, west of Paleochora, in the wider Kountoura area, between Krios and Plaka Kalamaki beaches.

The landscape is characterized by the typical beauty of the region, featuring pristine, crystal-clear waters and a coastline that offers moments of absolute relaxation. The atmosphere at Kountoura Beach remains exceptionally serene, making it ideal for those seeking quiet and contact with the natural environment, away from the crowds of organized shores.

Access is very easy by road, as the beach is situated near the provincial road connecting Paleochora with Elafonisi, serving visitors traveling through the southwestern side of the prefecture. Regarding organization, Kountoura Beach is unorganized, preserving its simple and virgin character, although there are rental rooms and basic infrastructure in the wider area. It administratively belongs to the Chania Prefecture and remains a consistent choice for those seeking Cretan hospitality in its most unadorned form.
