Voidomato Beach is one of the most stunning "hidden gems" of the Asterousia Mountains in the Heraklion region, located east of the Tris Ekklisies settlement and west of ChiaLu Beach.
It is situated at the exit of the imposing Mesosfini Gorge, in a landscape characterized by the raw, untamed beauty of the Libyan Sea. Its name (Voidomato = ox eye) is likely due to the shape of the cove or a local toponym, and the shore is covered with fine pebbles, while its waters are deep, crystal-clear, and boast a unique turquoise color.
Access to Voidomato is particularly difficult, as the area is steep and isolated. The easiest and safest way to reach it is by sea with a boat from Tris Ekklisies or Tsoutsouros. By land, access requires navigating rugged dirt roads followed by hiking through the Mesosfini Gorge, a route recommended only for experienced hikers with proper preparation.
Regarding organization, the beach is completely unorganized and pristine. There are no facilities whatsoever, and no natural shade, as the surrounding slopes are rocky and arid. Visitors wishing to discover this remote sanctuary must be entirely self-sufficient, carrying their own water, food, and shade equipment. The beach offers a rare experience of peace and connection with nature, while its rich seabed makes it an excellent destination for snorkeling enthusiasts.
