The Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary at Kroustallenia Monastery is one of the most notable religious sites on the Lassithi Plateau.

The Monastery of Panagia Kroustallenia is perched on a small hill surrounded by oak and maple trees and offers stunning views of the plain below, lying near the villages of Agios Konstantinos, Mesa Lassithi, and Marmaketo.

The church is dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, one of the most revered feasts in the Orthodox tradition, celebrated with great devotion every 15th of August.

Αlthough its exact foundation date is unknown, evidence suggests it existed during the Second Byzantine period, likely from the 13th century, and it played a notable role in the Cretan revolutionary movements of the 19th century. Over time, it was destroyed and rebuilt multiple times due to its involvement in resistance efforts.
