Stavros is one of the most famous coastal villages of Akrotiri in Chania, built at the northernmost tip of the peninsula, right beneath the imposing Vardies mountain.
The village gained global fame as the filming location for the movie "Zorba the Greek," with the characteristic mountain towering over the enclosed bay with turquoise waters.
The area is renowned for its main beach, which, due to its shape, is protected from the winds, making it ideal for swimming in a calm and almost enclosed harbor. At the northeastern end of the settlement lies Lera Cave, a site of significant historical and archaeological importance, while the coastline continues with Akra Mavromouri, offering a landscape of wild seaside beauty.
In terms of hospitality, Stavros features extensive infrastructure including hotels, luxury villas, and apartment complexes, providing accommodation options for every need. Visitors can enjoy local flavors at seaside restaurants and taverns located around the bay, taking in the unique view of the sea and the mountain.
The village's geographical location is connected by road to central Chania and the airport, while it neighbors other locations such as Galini and Paradisi. Stavros represents a destination that combines cinematic history with natural beauty, offering tranquility and quality amenities to travelers.
