Sfendyli was a small village a few kilometers south of the Hersonissos, which was sunk in 2012 in the waters of the αrtificial dam Aposelemi that was completed the same year.

The village was completely covered by the water but from 2015, after a protracted drought, the village came back to the surface. In the village, apart from the houses that their residents had to leave and move to neighboring villages, there was also a Byzantine church with 14th century frescoes.
